Migrating the function to operate at a higher value added level

Set against a background of increasing globalization PPI worked with the Group Finance function of a major pharmaceutical group to help establish a Business Partner culture and operating style in the company. The finance team was keen to migrate the function to work at a higher value added level and move away from some of the standardized controlling and reporting roles.  A series of workshops were delivered over several months that introduced finance professionals to a common operating style and approach to deliver more business impact.

Balancing the day-to-day finance work with a more consultative and value added role was explored in detail. Later on the company would move to a shared services model that would relocate some of the traditional controlling and reporting roles and so would accelerate the need to operate in a business partnering role. The initial success of the intervention meant that the function subsequently rolled out other Business Partner programmes and is now looking to migrate the approach into its subsidiary organisations.
